Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A community coronavirus testing site is being established at Graham Park in Rochester.

It’s believed to be the first of its kind in the state.

Olmsted County spokesman Dan Jensen says the initiative involves Olmsted County Public Health, Olmsted Medical Center and Mayo Clinic. He says this is the first known collaborative effort of its kind in the state as part of the COVID-19 response.

The county is establishing a large-scale drive-through specimen collection site at what was formerly known as the County Fairgrounds.

The 3 organizations will be piloting a drive-through process on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10 AM each day and until the limited specimen collections are exhausted. A news release says the goal this weekend is to identify process issues and make adjustments as needed.

Anyone wishing to be tested for COVID 19 will need to undergo a phone screening with their primary care provider to determine if testing is appropriate and meets the criteria for testing. Those approved for testing will be directed to the specimen collection site with additional instructions.

All of the specimens collected will be tested by Mayo Clinic Medical Laboratories.
