Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Mayo Clinic workers are now being asked to wear a mask when “on-site” as a result of the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic.

The new directive also applies to “those not involved in direct patient care.” Mayo says staff “are being educated on which masks are appropriate based on their role with patient care".

The policy change also encourages patients and visitors “to wear homemade or cloth masks, or others that they have personally obtained while on Mayo property.”

Staff and members of the public may follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance on the wearing of masks.

Federal guidelines were updated last week to include an advisory to all Americans to consider wearing a mask when in public.

Gov. Walz Tuesday revealed he and his family are now wearing masks while outside their home.
