The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the seven-county Twin Cities Metro area and Heat Advisory for counties in western and south-central Minnesota. The advisory includes Rice, Goodhue, Steele and Freeborn Counties.

Meteorologists expect the dangerous heat to be in place from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Heat index values are expected to range between 100 and 108 across the state.

Despite not being included in any warnings or advisories, the Rochester area won’t be spared by the heat. Heat index values are expected to be in the high 90’s Tuesday. Officials are encouraging anyone out in the heat to drink plenty of fluids, take breaks in shade or air-conditioned spaces and be alert for signs of heat-related illnesses.
