Dangerously Slippery Hills and Streets Reported in Rochester
There's a Winter Storm Warning and If you're out driving be aware you're likely to run into ice when you least expect it. Reports are coming in (9:30 AM 01/14/21) that everything from cars to garbage trucks are hitting ice and losing control hills and streets in Rochester, especially the south.
One Rochester resident said they saw a plow go down Fox Valley Road sideways!
Sources tell me Rochester's Department of Public Works is on the scene, salting and sanding, but please, be extra careful turn into skids to regain control. Your best defense is using the word SLOW. Slow to start, slow to speed up, slow to slow down, slow to stop. Check out the video for more tips.
The rain is part of the wintery mix forecast for this morning in SE Minnesota. Rain, snow and even sleet before 2PM, then rain and snow from 2PM to 4PM, and finally just snow after 4PM. The expected snow and sleet accumulation is about half-an-inch.
It's this evening thru tomorrow we'll likely start to see significant snow amounts. According to the National Weather Service in LaCrosse,
TONIGHT: Snow. Low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
FRIDAY: Snow likely before noon, then rain and snow likely between noon and 3pm, then snow likely after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 35. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
That forecast is a slight change from earlier this morning where they believed we may get heavier snow on Friday.
