A new analysis of federal crash data has identified the 10 deadliest stretches of road in and around the North Star State where fatal crashes happen most often.

The Land of 10,000 Lakes has a LOT of roads. In fact, according to the Minnesota House Research Department, the Gopher State has about 135,000 miles of streets and highways, one of the largest totals in the country.

Whether you're on a local or town road, a city street, a county highway, a state highway, or an interstate, traveling those roadways can be dangerous. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that nearly 39,000 people were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes on U.S. roadways last year—an increase of roughly 7% from 2019, according to the most recent data released in 2022.

The Deadliest Days on Minnesota Highways: Recent Crash Data

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) notes that the summer of 2023 was a particularly deadly one in the North Star State. Over the '100 deadliest days of summer,' which is between Memorial and Labor Day, KSTP noted that Minnesota reported 161 deaths, one of the highest the state has seen in a decade.
