Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council may make a decision Monday on a proposed major upgrade at the North Police Station.

The council tabled a decision earlier this year in an effort to get more information about other needs the city is facing. City Administrator Steve Rymer is now asking for a decision and he is recommending approval of the $18-million plan.

He is also seeking approval of a $6-million proposal to build a “one-stop shop” for the development services department. If approved, funding for the two projects would be included in the 2019-2024 capital improvement plan.

Rymer is also asking the council to “develop a strategy to fund a new/expanded library and the park system plan. “ Estimated costs for those projects are $140-million. He is also seeking approval to begin the process of building a new fire station.

In his memo to the council, Rymer says “ Even though the funds necessary to address the community’s public infrastructure needs are quite significant, it is important that the City Council and community recognize that there is a sense of urgency to develop actionable plans. The longer we wait the further we will fall behind as existing assets will exceed useful life and the future cost to address these needs will increase.”
