Eyota, MN (KROC AM News) - The Olmsted County Sheriff’s office has released details about a tragic incident that happened in Eyota over the weekend.
Sheriff’s Capt. Jim Schueller says three Eyota men were found unresponsive in a garage in the 500 block of Canyon Lane NW around 1:00 am Saturday.
One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 38-year-old
Brandon Mueller. The other two were taken to St Marys Hospital in critical condition. Schueller says he cannot confirm reports one of the surviving men has also died.
One lives at the residence and it was a family member who found them and called 911. Schueller says the woman told investigators the men had gone into the garage Friday night to drink alcohol. She checked on them around midnight and found nothing unusual. She checked again around 45 minutes later and noticed they were “acting strangely” and were becoming unresponsive. She then called 911.
Schueller says a gas furnace was being used to heat the garage and it was checked and several internal leaks were found but the medical examiner told investigators "carbon monoxide has been ruled out" as the cause of Mueller's death.
Schueller says the three were given a dose of Narcan and one man regained consciousness. Schueller says the man was incoherent but gave a “thumbs up” when asked if he had taken drugs. No evidence of drug use was found at the scene.
Schueller said "We are not ruling out possible controlled substances as a cause or contributing factor" and the investigation is ongoing. Toxicology results are pending.
