Millions of Americans relocate every year, and personal safety is one of the most important factors to consider when doing so. Unfortunately, many often rely on public opinion, think social media or a Google search, rather than some hard data. Not one Southern Minnesota ('rural'/non-suburban in my opinion) city was listed in the Top-10 of Safest Minnesota cities according to Alarms.org's rankings. The safest city here in Southern Minnesota? Northfield coming in at #14 on the list.

The rankings are put together using data from the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics. Alarms.org then eliminated any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI and cities with populations under 10,000. This left 3,381 cities (out of a total of 9,251). Here are the Top-10, followed by some area cities and where they ranked.

10. Lakeville
9. Chaska
8. Lino Lakes
7. Farmington
6. Rosemount
5. Stillwater
4. Minnetrista
3. South Lake Minnetonka
2. Big Lake
1. Orono

Northfield came in at #14, St. Peter #19, Owatonna #34, Faribault #39, Rochester #44, Shakopee #51, Austin #55, Albert Lea #60, and Mankato at #75.

I don't know if we could call it the least safe as it's only the top-83 cities, but coming in at #83 on the list is Bemidji, followed by Maplewood, Roseville, West St. Paul, and Duluth.
