Garth Brooks Wins Second Straight CMA Entertainer of the Year Award
Garth Brooks is on top once again. The country legend took home his second straight CMA Entertainer of the Year award at the CMA Awards on Wednesday night.
Accepting the award from presenter Reba McEntire, Brooks first bowed to her and referred to her as an entertainer of a lifetime. Then he began his round of thanks. "The most important thing other than God himself are you the people that allow us to do this," he told the audience at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.
"Ms. Yearwood I am yours forever," he said at the end, referring to wife Trisha Yearwood. The two shared a long kiss upon his name being announced.
Other nominees for the award were Chris Stapleton, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban and Eric Church. The Entertainer of the Year award closed the show and tied a bow on a CMA Awards that was all about unity. Poweful performances from Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban highlighted the three-hour long telecast. Brooks performed his current single "Ask Me How I Know" with the song's writer Mitch Rossell by his side.
The song is Brooks' first radio hit since his comeback began. In December he'll wrap a three-year-long North American tour. It's this tour and the energy of his live shows that earned him this honor. During a secret ballot taken earlier this week, nearly three dozen artists shared who they thought should win, with Brooks taking the most votes. Bryan was second amongst these artists.
