The annual Volksfest celebration is coming up June 9 and 10 in Goodhue with fun for the whole family and country superstars!

Take in the city parade, the udder run, a softball tournament, bean bag tournament, road rally, food and of course, the concerts! On Friday, June 9, attendees will be treated to the sounds of Chris Hawkey featuring Diesel Drive. On Saturday, June 10, Emily Ann Roberts and JT & The Gunslingers start the evening off, followed by Diamond Rio. The concerts are outdoors downtown and are rain or shine events. It sounds like a great time for country music fans!

The concerts are hosted by the Goodhue Jaycees, which is a collection of about 30 men who donate their time to benefit the community. The group has been active since the 1980s and, in addition to the Volksfest concerts, the Goodhue Jaycees also sell Christmas trees and host a Christmas tree cleanup, do a sandbox fill each year, have made picnic tables, and have worked with the education foundation. While Volksfest is well-known for big names now, it was only about seven years ago that the the Jaycees started discussing the idea of bringing in nationally known acts, and six years ago that Sawyer Brown took the Volksfest stage as the first national act.

Putting on a show that attracts about 2,000 people on Friday, and on average 3,700 people on Saturday is no easy task, and the Goodhue Jaycees receive some help the day of the event from the Wanamingo Fire Department, the Goodhue Fire Department, and the Goodhue Bellechester Railriders Snowmobile club. The country stars selected have been very popular in the ’80s and ’90s and still resonate well with the audience. Performers are selected in part through social media polls and input from members of the Goodhue Jaycees, and the country stars are treated to a taste of Minnesota nice and great hospitality with a home-cooked meal the day of the show.
