St Paul (KROC AM News) - It’s official. The special election to fill the vacant 1st Congressional District seat in southern Minnesota will be held on Aug. 9th.
That’s the same day Minnesota holds its statewide primary election.
The special election was ordered Tuesday by Gov. Walz due to the sudden passing of Congressman Jim Hagedorn. He died from kidney cancer last week at the age of 59.
The governor’s order also specifies a special primary for the seat will be held May 24th, if needed.
Candidate filings for the seat will be accepted between March 1st - 15th.
