Minnesota Timberwolves Star Undergoes Surgery in Rochester
He's one of Minnesota's biggest professional sports stars, so it makes sense that he had a medical procedure at the best hospital in the world, which is also right here in Minnesota!
Anthony Edwards Undergoes Knee Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester
Anthony Edwards is perhaps the biggest name on the Minnesota Timberwolves' roster right now, but as we know, he's not currently on the court. That's because the team announced earlier this week that he's out with an injury to his right knee, which he reaggravated during the 2026 season opener against Miami.
Edwards has been a star with Minnesota since the Timberwolves took him as the overall number-one draft pick during the 2020 NBA Draft. Since then, he's gone on to lead the Wolves to playoff appearances in each of the last five seasons starting in 2021, with the Wolves making it all the way to the Western Conference Finals in 2026.

What We Know About Anthony Edwards' Knee Procedure
So it's understandable that Wolves fans were concerned when word dropped that Edwards is being sidelined with a knee injury. But there is some good news to report, and it concerns our own Mayo Clinic here in Rochester. In a post on their social media, the Timberwolves said:
Edwards underwent a successful right knee arthroscopic procedure for debridement today (Thursday 10/29) by Dr. Craig Bennett at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He is expected to make a full recovery, and further updates of his progress will be provided when available.
ESPN explained more, noting that Mayo Clinic called the procedure a 'minimally invasive measure used to clean, smooth, or remove damaged cartilage, bone spurs, or loose joint fragments from the knee joint to relieve pain and improve mobility.'

When Could Anthony Edwards Return to the Timberwolves?
The bad news is that there's no specific timeline for Edwards to return to action on the court with the Wolves, and ESPN said team officials estimate he could be sidelined for up to two months. That would mean he likely won't return to the team until after January 1st, 2027.
The Wolves said that in the four games he played this season, Edwards was averaging 33.3 points on 48.1% shooting, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals in 33.8 minutes per game.
