Groupon’s President’s Day Deal in Honor of “Former President” Alexander Hamilton– Who Was Never President

The good people at Groupon wanted to get in on President's Day this year, so they decided to give people $10 off on purchases of $40 or more. Which they did, but also credited a "former president" who wasn't actually ever president.

In a press release on Friday, they wrote, quote, "The $10 bill, as everyone knows, features President Alexander Hamilton-- undeniably one of our greatest presidents and most widely recognized for establishing the country's financial system."

The only problem is, he wasn't ever president.  He was one of the primary forces in establishing our financial system-- but it's because he was the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. Which is why he's on the $10 bill.

So yeah, Groupon based their President's Day sale around honoring "former president" Alexander Hamilton-- who was never president.

And apparently, when someone wrote to them to point that out, instead of admitting their mistake, Groupon doubled down.

Their response to being called out on mistaking Hamilton for a former president was, quote, "We respect everyone's beliefs.  You're certainly entitled to your opinion."
