It's no secret that bacon is America's favorite condiment, we put it on everything and unfortunately, it's going to cost you a lot more at the grocery store. Perhaps, you've already noticed the price hike. The reason - African swine fever.

The disease is wiping out China's pig population. They love bacon in China too and with less supply, they are being forced to buy more from pork producers around the world.  According to CNN, "China normally accounts for 49% of global pork consumption, while consuming 28% of the world's meat supply. As such, this is a big problem for China, and we expect it to be a five to seven-year problem before production can be restored."

Rich Deaton, the president of the Ohio Pork Council, told Business Insider: "While bacon may become more expensive for consumers, rest assured the pork industry will not run out of supply."
