The last few years have been rough for commercial airlines. Doesn't it feel like we are hearing about more malfunctions, accidents, and near misses? Just this last winter, a Delta flight from Minneapolis to Toronto crash-landed upside down on the runway. Miraculously, everyone survived that crash.

Just days ago, another Delta flight flying from Minneapolis nearly struck a B-52 bomber. What is going on here?

Near Miss Near Minot, North Dakota

The jet was an Embraer E175LR operated by SkyWest. They were on an approach for landing on July 19th at Minot International Airport when the plane made a sudden jerk to the right and underwent an "aggressive maneuver" to avoid a mid-air collision with a B-52 bomber.

The Air Force did confirm that there was a B-52 assigned to do a flyover at the North Dakota State Fair. In this video shared by KFYR-TV, you can see the regional jet to the right of the grand state in the first few seconds. Then, the camera focuses on the left side of the grandstand, where you can then see the B-52 come into view.

Pilot Apologizes To Passengers

The pilot apologized to the passengers for the aggressive maneuver and said he'd explain everything in a minute. He then got back on the intercom and explained what happened. ABC News shared the wordy apology.

"So sorry about the aggressive maneuver, it caught me by surprise, this is not normal at all. I don't know why they didn't give us a heads up, because the Air Force base does have radar ... long story short, it was not fun, but I do apologize for it and thank you for understanding. Not a not a fun day at work."

"Caught me by surprise" and "not a fun day at work" are words you definitely don't want to ever hear from your pilot. The Air Force is "currently looking into the matter," and SkyWest is investigating the incident.
