Nobody really knows how it happens here in America, but it just does for all families that celebrate it. The fact that someone in a family usually is the forever host of all Thanksgiving dinners for the whole family.

Usually, you go back to your parents house, with your own kids in tow, and meet up with all of your siblings and their families and break some bread.

But one woman — after 10 years of hosting for her six siblings and their kids, along with her family as well — asked for a break this year.

Woman Wants 'Break' From Hosting Thanksgiving, Family Drama Explodes

In a now viral Reddit post, the 40-year-old woman talks about how she has been the anchor of the Thanksgiving tradition for her whole family for over a decade, but she needs a break this year.

@Acemer0904 writes on Reddit, "I enjoy having everyone over, but it’s a lot of work, especially since we all have at least [two] kids each (all in the age group 5-15). It’s chaos, but joyful chaos."

She asked people on Reddit if she's wrong for "refusing to host Thanksgiving this year after doing it for the past decade."

The woman shared more about the situation, which has garnered thousands of comments so far.

"My two older sisters accused me of being selfish and abandoning a family tradition that I’ve upheld for years," she wrote.

"They argued that I’m the one with the most experience, and that Thanksgiving just wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t host."

This, of course, added some major pressure to the woman, who was already stressing telling her family that she didn't want to host this year. She said, "Now, there is tension in the family, with my older sisters feeling like I’m letting them down."

Others certainly don't feel that way though on the now viral Reddit post.

The top upvoted comment on the post defends the woman. "Oof, they have nerve. No. Of course you’re [not wrong]. You’ve been doing the lion's share and want a break? How dare you! And your sister using the excuse that she’s stressed? Guess what? Welcome to adulthood. We’re all stressed here."

Another comment taking the woman's side said, "Hell, I wouldn’t even bother with that. I’d respond to the group, saying..'Selfish is when your sister reaches out for help, explains she is unable to perform the amount of physical and mental labor you expect from her, and you call her selfish…'"

This has sparked quite the debate on Reddit with thousands of people weighing in, representing both sides of the argument.

Top 20 Songs of 2024, Ranked (So Far)

New country artists rule this Top Country Songs of 2024 list, but that doesn't mean traditional country isn't represented early and often.

Zach Top and Ella Langley are two newcomers that purists may enjoy, while fans of more progressive country music will appreciate Jelly Roll, Post Malone and Shaboozey.

Airplay charts, sales data and streaming numbers helped make this list of country music's Top 20 Songs of 2024, but staff and Taste of Country reader opinion were most influential.

Songs included on previous Top Country Songs lists were not eligible. A song may have been released in 2023, but it had to have the majority of recorded airplay or impact this year to count.
