Oronoco, MN (KROC-AM News)- A southeast Minnesota man is in custody for an armed robbery at a Rochester-area gas station.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Tim Parkin said Friday that deputies responded to the reported robbery around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon.

He said the alleged robbery occurred a few hours before it was reported.

Chatfield Man Arrested for Gun Point Robbery at Shell Gas Station in Oronoco

The robbery was reported at the Gas and Go, located at 1455 Cedar Center Ave SE in Oronoco. 

Deputies learned a man had entered the store, brandished a firearm and took the clerk’s phone and left the store, according to the sheriff’s office. 

Suspect Identified

Parkin said investigators identified the armed robbery suspect as 43-year-old Norman Sommerfield of Chatfield

The sheriff’s office says Somerfeld was subsequently involved in a hit and run in Chatfield and was later taken into custody.

Olmsted County Adult Detention Center records indicate Sommerfield was booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree aggravated robbery and theft by pick pocketing shortly before 11:00 Wednesday morning.

He is due to make his first court appearance Friday morning.
