Court records indicate 29-year-old Efram Ciavarelli was required to register as a predatory offender following his 2018 conviction for possession of child pornography in Olmsted County.

The criminal complaint in that case alleged he engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old boy he met on the Grindr dating app.

Court records say the investigation led to the discovery of "a substantial quantity of images of child pornography, depicting victims ranging from 18 months of age to approximately 16 years of age engaged in sexual acts."

The illicit materials were found on his cell phone, according to the court document.

Oronoco Man Sentenced to Jail and Probation for Conviction in Rochester Child Pornography Case

Ciavarelli was charged in the new case last September with one count each of disseminating child pornography by a registered predatory offender and possession of child pornography.

The new case against Ciavarelli began when Rochester police received a cyber tip regarding three images of suspected child sexual abuse material uploaded to Snapchat in December 2024.

The sexually explicit images depicted young girls between the ages of 5 and approximately 10 years old, according to the court document.

Rochester police used a subpoena to gather additional information from Snapchat that linked the uploads of suspected child sexual abuse material to Ciavarelli’s residence in southeast Rochester, the complaint says.

They executed a search warrant at his home last September and seized his electronic devices.

June Plea Deal

In June, Ciavarelli entered a plea agreement, pleading guilty to the possession count in exchange for the dismissal of the dissemination count.
