Man Shot by Deputy Outside Central Minnesota General Store
Montrose, MN (KROC-AM News) - Agents with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension were dispatched this afternoon to a small town just west of the Twin Cities to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
According to the Wright County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred around 1 PM at a Dollar General store in Montrose, which is a city of about 2800 residents located about 10 miles west of Wayzata. A preliminary investigation determined a man was shot by a Wright County deputy while attempting to arrest him on outstanding warrants.
A news release says the deputy involved in the shooting went to apprehended the man as he exited the store. The statement says the man refused to comply with instructions and brandished a firearm.
Officials say less the lethal measures were then deployed against him, but the man continued to resist arrest and would not drop the gun. At that point one of the deputies opened fire and shot the man.
The deputies at the scene immediately administered emergency aid until he could be transported by ambulance to a hospital. Information about the extent of his injuries is not available.
His name has also not been released and officials have yet to disclose the nature of the arrest warrants involved in the case.
