MN Air Guard Unit Activated For Anti-Drug Mission in Columbia
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A group of Minnesota citizen soldiers has been selected to assist in the nation’s counter drug mission in South America.
The Minnesota National Guard says a departure ceremony will be held on Thursday afternoon for members of Detachment 5, Bravo Company, Second Battalion, 245th Aviation Regiment. The ceremony will take place at the Air National Guard facility in St. Paul prior to the unit's departure for a nine-month deployment to Bogotá Columbia.
“This enduring mission is an ongoing cooperative effort between the United States, Colombia, and other South American countries,” said Chief Warrant Officer Five Brad Husnik, Detachment Commander. “This high-visibility mission provides multiple opportunities for the members of the detachment to showcase the skills and experience of the Minnesota National Guard in master-level, expeditionary travel during extreme environments, including high altitudes.”
A news release says the unit will conduct flight operations out of Bogotá.
Their mission will be to transport passengers and cargo in support of the US Southern Command Combat Transnational Organized Crime Counter Drug/Counter Narcotics Mission.
