Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - The union representing more than 1700 Hormel Foods workers in Austin has reached a tentative contract agreement with the company.

A news release issued by United Food and Commercial Workers Local 663 says the deal was struck during the negotiating session Wednesday night. The details of the tentative agreement are still being shared with union members and are not been released to the public.

Local 663 issued the following statement:

“We unanimously recommend this tentative agreement to our fellow union members at Hormel. We are grateful for the strength our coworkers showed throughout this bargaining process to keep our voices heard. When we show up for each other, we see each other, and only together will we succeed because we are a union.”

Informational meetings to discuss the provisions of the tentative contract will take place this weekend and the union members are scheduled to hold a ratification vote next Monday. The results of that vote should be ready to be made public on Monday night.

The tentative deal would also cover Hormel workers in Atlanta, Beloit Wisconsin, and Algona Iowa back in September, UFCW members in Austin and the three other cities that host Hormel plants voted overwhelmingly to reject what was then termed Hormel's final contract offer, which raised the specter of a potential strike at all four facilities.

The negotiating sessions resumed earlier this week.
