Chatfield’s Peddle Tea and Coffee is Closing at the End of the Month
A coffee shop that's only been open for less than a year in Chatfield will be closing their doors at the end of the month.
Peddle Tea and Coffee's owner, Jessica, announced the decision on social media. The reason is sad but I'm also really glad she was so open and honest about what's been going on behind the scenes.
The line that really struck me was: "It’s a special type of purgatory to come to loathe your dream because it has taken your life."

Chatfield, MN Coffee Shop Closing
Peddle Tea and Coffee opened in September of 2025. It was Jessica's dream to own a coffee shop and she got the chance to do just that!
I love the coffee shop. I love creating fun little drinks. I love baking sweet treats. I love hosting. It has been an incredible gift getting to know so many of you. Your support has meant more than you’ll ever know, and Chatfield is such a wonderful community.
But, as any business owner knows, owning your own business comes with it's own unique struggles. The struggles will be different from person to person and business to business, but Jessica's dream turned into what she describes as 'purgatory'.
I have worked more hours than the rest of the staff combined. I have gotten up before the sun 309 of the last 314 days. ... I ate expired soup through January because no one bought it, and I couldn’t afford to throw it away.
It’s a special type of purgatory to come to loathe your dream because it has taken your life.
And you cannot pour from an empty cup.
Ugh, that makes me so sad that she was able to fulfil this amazing dream of hers, but then to have it totally vanish in a year.
At the same time, I'm super proud of her, even though I don't know her at all!
It takes guts to decide to start your own business. It took a lot of work to build this place up to what it is today. And it takes courage to tell the world what's been going on behind the scenes and that your dream just isn't your dream anymore.
Peddle Tea and Coffee will close at the end of August.
I am proud of what I built. I bought an empty commercial building, took a chance on myself, and created a place where thousands of conversations happened over cups of coffee. For a little while, this little corner of Main Street became a gathering place. That’s something I’ll always be grateful for.
