City of Rochester Announces 4th of July Fireworks Make-Up Date

Were you at the Rochester 4th of July fireworks show that... was lackluster? The city has announced the official make-up show, and it's coming up during Labor Day weekend, on that Friday. That feels like the next appropriate time to shoot off a bunch of fireworks, so that makes sense to me!

Rochester, MN 4th of July Fireworks Show 2026

The fireworks display from Soldier's Field was supposed to start at 10 PM on July 4th. Then, suddenly some storms developed, so to get the show in before the storms they moved the start time up to 9:30 PM.

People were set up early waiting for the show. And waiting. The first firework didn't shoot off until 9:45 and then ended just a few minutes later. Well, that's not normal.

We learned what happened a few days later and reported on it:

According to the company, the extreme heat during the day took a massive toll on the crew. Combine that brutal heat with the sudden, last-minute decision to bump the launch time up by 30 minutes to beat the incoming storms, and the crew simply ran out of time.

The city committed to working with the company to figure out a make-up date for the show, and now that make-up date has been confirmed.

When to See the Rochester, MN 4th of July Make-Up Fireworks Show

The city released a statement that the make-up show will be on Friday, September 4th, the start of Labor Day weekend.

It will be at Soldier's Field, but no official start time has been established yet.

The city also writes, "The City has developed a communication plan for the event to help ensure attendees receive timely information if weather or other circumstances affect the fireworks display." So if another weather event happens that cancels the show again, they have a plan in place to let people know.
