Illinois Loves the Wisconsin Dells

Growing up in Illinois, visiting the Wisconsin Dells during the summer is kind of a right of passage. The Dells is only about a 45-minute drive from my family's cabin in Wisconsin, so as a kid, my family went there for the day a lot. While we mostly frequented the waterpark and go-kart attractions, we did get to see a lot of the other fun things the Dells area has to offer families. The one thing I don't remember ever seeing or hearing about was Fort Dells Theme Park. Do you remember this place?

Do You Remember the Old Wisconsin Dells Theme Park Called Fort Dells?

Fort Dells Theme Park opened in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin in June of 1959 and visitors loved the special frontier experience the park offered for families.

Fort Dells spanned over 11 acres of land and featured four different sections that many people say were similar to what the Frontierland at Disneyland Park experience was like back in the day. Fort Dells featured rides, characters, train rides, a paddlewheel steamboat, animals, live shows, and much more fun for all ages.

Fort Dells Theme Park officially closed back in 1985 and was completely demolished by 1997, but some fans of the park had this sign erected in its memory and it can still be seen in Wisconsin Dells today.

Does Any Part of the Fort Dells Theme Park Still Remain?

The address of Fort Dell Theme Park was 775 Wisconsin Dells Pkwy, and I'm willing to bet you have recently been on part of its former grounds while eating a meal at the Fort Dells McDonald's...

While reports say the Fort Dells Theme Park was completely bulldozed by 1997, you might still spot a few remnants in that area if you look hard enough.
