Jake Owen on First ACM Awards Nod in a Decade: ‘Holy Guacamole!’
Back in 2009, Jake Owen won an ACM Award for New Male Vocalist of the Year. Since then, however, he's been absent from the nominations list -- that is, until now.
The Academy of Country Music revealed its list of nominees for the 2019 ACM Awards on Wednesday morning (Feb. 20), and Owen's latest single, "Down to the Honkytonk," was listed in the running for Single of the Year. The song is nominated along some serious heavy hitters, such as Kane Brown's "Heaven," Florida Georgia Line's " Meant to Be" (featuring Bebe Rexha,) Luke Bryan's "Most People Are Good" and Dan + Shay's "Tequila."
When he heard the good news, Owen replied on Twitter that he was blown away by the nomination. "Holy guacamole!" the singer wrote, adding an emoji of an avocado.
Owen goes on to say that he was already enjoying some quality time with his daughter, Pearl, and that the announcement of his ACM nomination made an already good day even better.
"I just woke up with my little girl laying on my shoulder to find out about this! Life can't get much better," he gushes. "Thank so much to my team and fans out there! Wow. I'm seriously so excited."
"Down to the Honkytonk" follows "I Was Jack (And You Were Diane)," Owen's first No. 1 radio hit since 2016. In 2018, the singer also embarked on his extensive Life's Whatcha Make It Tour. In personal news, Owen also recently announced that he is expecting his second child, a daughter, with his girlfriend, Erica Hartlein.
