It's only August but Christmas time was on the mind of Kenyon Police Chief Lee Sjolander on Monday night. In a post to the Kenyon Police Departments Facebook Page, Chief Sjolander announced that the Kenyon Garage of Goodness Event was not going to take place this year due to the actions of a few in 2018.

The post was put up around 6:00 P.M. by a Chief Sjolander, a man that people know cares deeply about the community in which he serves.

The post goes on to state all of the hard work and volunteers whose time is donated to sort through the donated goods for those less fortunate during the holiday season. The event was held the first week in December. Not this year. It's due to "some people who had attended this event took items to resell on social media sites, at pawn shops, etc."

These items were all donated out of the goodness of peoples hearts, and some people just took advantage of that. It's sad.

In an interview with WCCO-TV Sjolander is quoted saying:

“If the public starts hearing that the wonderful items that they are donating are being taken and sold, it really defeats the purpose of the program. And it really hurts our feelings.” -Kenyon Police Chief Lee Sjolander

Sjolander told WCCO-TV, and wrote in the post, that he was open however to someone else taking the event over if they felt they could handle it.

I'm hoping we have a local hero step up and take on the event because even though it's August, a Christmas miracle can still happen.
