Kasson-Mantorville Is About to Make Minnesota Volleyball History

Volleyball. Outside. Under the lights. On a football field.

Yeah, high school me would have completely lost my mind over this.

I played volleyball back in the day, and if you had told me then that we could play a real, official high school match outdoors under the stadium lights, I would have thought that was hands-down the coolest thing on the planet.

And now it's actually happening right here in Southeast Minnesota.

Kasson-Mantorville Hosting Minnesota’s First Outdoor High School Volleyball Match

Kasson-Mantorville shared on their Facebook page that the KoMets will take on the Triton Cobras (Dodge Center) Friday night in what is expected to be the first outdoor volleyball match sanctioned by the Minnesota State High School League, making Minnesota high school volleyball history.

According to the Dodge County Independent, K-M Activities Director Broc Threinen started looking into the idea after seeing the massive outdoor volleyball event Nebraska hosted in 2023. He contacted dozens of companies while trying to figure out how to build a volleyball court inside a football stadium.

The school ultimately partnered with the Mayo Civic Center to help with the setup, with the court planned for the area in front of the home side of the stadium.

So no, this isn't just a random net staked into the grass. It is a full-blown, official volleyball court under the stadium lights.

The varsity match is scheduled for 8:15 pm at KMTelecom Stadium in Kasson, but the evening will actually include several levels of volleyball, beginning with a 7th and 8th grade scrimmage at 4:30.
