Peters is accused of going to Sterling State Bank near the south Walmart store around 9:30 last Friday morning. A female employee said the man was wearing a surgical mask when he entered the bank. She said the man threw a white grocery-style bag down on the counter and told her, “give me your money.”

According to the complaint:

“Victim stated she asked the suspect “excuse me,” which he replied “I’m robbing you, give me your money.” Victim stated she repeated what the suspect said as she wanted someone else to hear it.” The employee gave the money that was in a cash drawer - including documented “bait money.”  She said the man “had his right hand in his front jacket pocket when he walked in.”

It was determined the man made off with just under $1600 in various denominations.

A short while later, an attempted bank robbery was reported in Pine Island. The description of the man matched that of the Rochester suspect. He was caught a short while later. A search of his car turned up the stolen money.

Peters was arraigned Monday and his conditional bail was set at $75,000.
