May Was Second Wettest on Record in Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The month of May in the Rochester area can be summarized using just four words: cool and very wet.
The unofficial monthly statistics from the National Weather Service show 9.42 inches of rain was recorded at the Rochester Airport last month. That is nearly 5.8 inches above normal and is the second highest rainfall total on record for the month of May in Rochester. The monthly record was set in 2013 at 12.26 inches.
The average temperature last month was only 53.9-degrees. That’s 4.2-degrees below normal, but not cool enough to be included in the list of the ten coolest Mays on record.
Much of the water from the May storms and showers is still making its way down the Mississippi River. It’s currently cresting at just below moderate flood stage in Winona and is nearing the predicted crest at La Crosse at a level that causes moderate flooding.
