Mayo’s CEO Decides to Call it Quits
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Mayo Clinic President and CEO John Noseworthy has announced his retirement plans. A news release indicates Dr. Noseworthy plans to end his 28-year career with Mayo at the end of this year. His decision to retire follows another strong year of growth for the Mayo Clinic and the completion of a $3.76 billion fundraising campaign.
“I am honored that the Board of Trustees asked me to serve another year, through the end of 2018,” says Dr. Noseworthy. “2017 was an extraordinary year for Mayo Clinic, and I look forward to working with our leadership team throughout 2018 to continue to strengthen Mayo Clinic and advance our humanitarian mission. I am truly humbled to serve as president and CEO of this amazing and dynamic organization. Every day, I continue to be inspired by the work of Mayo’s staff and how they embody our shared values to care for our patients and advance the field of medicine.”
Dr. Noseworthy has served as the Mayo Clinic’s President and CEO for the past 9-years. The most recent financial filing by the Mayo Clinic included information that put his annual compensation at about $2.8 million. His tenure at the top leadership post in the Mayo organization has included the successful push to have the Minnesota Legislature approve the Destination Medical Center plan with nearly $600 million in state funding to improve Rochester’s infrastructure to support Mayo’s growth and the Number 1 ranking as the best hospital in the nation by U.S. News and World Report in both 2016 and 2017.
The current chair of the Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees says a search committee will be announced soon with a goal of having the next president and CO selected by the early fall to allow for a smooth transition.
