In an annual ranking, Minneapolis took home the number one spot for the 4th time in 5 years as having the best park system in the country. This annual ranking is done by a nonprofit called the Trust for Public Land. They looked at 100 park systems in the largest cities across the country to come up with these final rankings for 2020.

It's important to note that they did not take the pandemic into accounting when coming up with these rankings. A city park researcher for the Trust for Public Land, Charlie McCabe, told the Star Tribune that they based their ranking "on accessibility, acreage, spending per capita and amenities including basketball hoops, playgrounds and restrooms", just like they have in years past.

In the past 5 years, Minneapolis has only lost the number one ranking once and that was last year when they lost to Washington D.C. and Minneapolis was number three, St. Paul was number two. This year, St. Paul fell to the number three spot, Washington D.C. to number two, and Minneapolis took first!

How did Minneapolis jump up to the number one spot again? According to the ParkScore data given by the Trust for Public Land, the Star Tribune writes that "98% of Minneapolis residents now live within a 10-minute walk from a park, up two percentage points from last year."

The other cities that made the top five best park systems in the country are Arlington, Virginia and Cincinnati, Ohio.
