My life is just a few years short of looking VERY different. The hubby and I have been tossing around ideas about what’s next, and I’m all about that tiny home life. Now, thanks to a new article I found, I’ve got even more leverage to convince him. ;)

I recently took a class on tiny homes for my real estate continuing education, mostly because I was curious, but also because I wanted to know if this kind of lifestyle could actually work. Downsizing has always sounded a little bit like giving up, but this? This felt more like taking back control.

No mortgage? Lower bills? Less stuff to clean? As someone about to become an empty nester, let me just say: Sign. Me. Up.

While digging into what it would cost to build a tiny home and how realistic it would be in Minnesota, I came across a fascinating article that ranked the best states for tiny home living. And, to my surprise, Minnesota was quite high on the list!

The article, published by HomeGnome, looked at every state and ranked them based on a handful of factors like housing costs, cost of land, availability of tiny home builders, how strict the zoning laws are, and even how many people are already living the tiny lifestyle in each state.

The top three states? Texas, Colorado, and Tennessee. Texas takes the lead with loads of tiny home communities and builders. Colorado’s packed with resources and has the highest number of established communities, while Tennessee is catching up fast with growing interest and more builders popping up across the state.

Minnesota Just Scored Big for Tiny Living in New Study:

Minnesota came in at 13th on the list, which, let’s be honest, is pretty darn impressive considering our winters alone are enough to scare off half the country. But clearly, we’ve got a lot going for us. Maybe it's all the lakes you could park next to?

The Land of 10,000 Lakes actually ranked well for affordability, land availability, and a growing acceptance of tiny home communities. Plus, we’ve got a solid mix of rural and suburban areas that make this kind of living actually possible. Not to mention, plenty of Minnesotans are already doing it.

Could you live in a tiny home?
