Minnesota Boy’s Shooting Death Linked To Illegal Gun Possession
Minneapolis (KROC AM News) - The gun that killed a young northwest Minnesota boy earlier this year should not have been in the home where he died.
Federal prosecutors have now opened a criminal case against the man who owned the gun after learning he was prohibited from possessing firearms because he is a convicted felon.
The US Attorney’s Office in Minneapolis announced Wednesday 33-year Phillip Jones of Moorhead had been arrested. Investigators say a 6-year-old boy was shot in a residence in Moorhead where Jones had been living.
There were three other juveniles in the residence at the time of the deadly shooting that happened March 21. Investigators confirmed no adults were in the residence when the boy was shot. Investigators say the gun discharged while the children were playing with it
Police found a loaded .40 caliber handgun in the home and a spent shell casing in a trashcan in the residence.
