One local Minnesota craft distillery just announced that it's getting ready to bottle its final batch of spirits and will soon close its doors permanently.

The North Star State has had a thriving craft beer and cocktail scene for several years now. I've often said how much my wife and I enjoy heading to one of those great craft breweries to sample their unique beers. And recently, we've also really enjoyed getting to try some of the unique spirits made at one of Minnesota's craft distilleries, as well.

While there aren't as many local distilleries as craft breweries here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, there are still some great places making some really incredible spirits. According to the Minnesota Distillers Guild, which has been representing local Minnesota distillers since 2012, there are 30 distilleries right now across the state producing craft spirits that you can also find in Minnesota liquor stores, bars, cocktail rooms and restaurants.

But that number is soon to be one less, as this craft distillery in Stillwater recently announced that it would be closing permanently later this month. According to a post on their Facebook page, January 18th will be the last day in business for Forge and Foundry Distillery.

Forge and Foundry is located at 223 Main Street North in Stillwater (right next door to the craft brewery, River Siren) and has been open since mid-2020 but is now calling it quits later this month:

It's Time to Say Goodbye. This is, without a doubt, the hardest post we’ve ever had to write. After 4 ½ incredible years, we’ve made the difficult decision to close the doors of Forge and Foundry. Our last day of service will be Saturday, January 18. To our customers, thank you for being part of this journey. You’ve celebrated your milestones with us, brought your friends and families here, and supported us through thick and thin. You’ve made our little distillery a place filled with laughter, community, and unforgettable memories. We’ll always treasure that.

The post went on to say 'This isn’t the end we imagined, but we’re so proud of everything we’ve built together.' The post didn't give a specific reason the distillery is closing, however.

25 Highest-Rated Breweries in Minnesota

To help you discover some of the best local brews, Stacker put together a list of Minnesota's top-rated breweries based on Tripadvisor data. Tripadvisor's rankings are a mix of several factors, including overall rating, user reviews, and page traffic. This means that even a brewery with a perfect 5 out of 5 rating might be outranked by one with a 4 out of 5 if it has more reviews or higher visibility.
