Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A recent crackdown on drunk driving in Minnesota resulted in far fewer arrests than similar enforcement campaigns conducted during the holidays during the past five years.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says law enforcement officers throughout the state made 1383 DWI arrests in connection with the Holiday Extra DWI Enforcement and Awareness Campaign from November 25th through December 31st. That is nearly 1000 below the arrest totals that were reported following the annual holiday enforcement campaigns dating back to 2015. The total last year was 2353.

State Troopers in the Rochester District of the State Patrol reported 50 DWI arrests. Rochester Police reported 24 arrests by officers participating in the campaign, while the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office reported 6 DWI arrests.
