It took a total team effort from across Minnesota to get our highways open again after Saturday's blizzard, including some big snow removal equipment!

It was late Tuesday afternoon when Minnesota's Department of Transportation announced that crews had finally broken through those massive snow drifts along parts of Highway-63 north of Rochester between East Troy and Lake City and had made that highway passable again.

Crews did similar battle with massive drifts along Highways 30, 43 and 44 in southeast Minnesota. And, if you're scoring along at home, that's a full TWO DAYS after Old Man Winter had dumped over a foot of wet, heavy snow on us. Usually, crews are able to get our roads and highways in good winter driving condition in a matter of hours, not days.

MnDOT posted a cool video on their Twitter page Tuesday that shows what kind of army is involved in getting our highways clear of snow again after a massive storm like this. And there are some pretty massive pieces of snow removal equipment MnDOT used, too-- of course, you have to use stuff that big when you're battling snow drifts that were between 10 and 12 feet high, like they were in parts of southeast Minnesota.

So, thanks, crew members, plow drivers, first responders, National Guard members, and anyone else who helped us get through this massive storm. It really points out to me how much we take for granted being able to just hop in the car and head wherever we want-- which is especially tricky when Mother Nature has other plans!
