Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A new trial has been scheduled for a Rochester man who shot and killed a teenager.

An Olmsted County jury was unable to reach a verdict in the first trial of 26-year-old Alexander Weiss. His new trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 14th.

Weiss is facing a 2nd-degree murder charge in the Jan. 2018 death of 17-year-old Mohammed Rahim. Weiss claims he shot in self-defense during a confrontation that erupted after the two were involved in a minor traffic crash.

During the trial that began with jury selection on April 29th, the prosecution tried to convince the jury Weiss had ample opportunity to retreat and actually escalated the confrontation when he grabbed his gun from his car. The jury that heard the case deliberated for about 10-hours before declaring they were hopelessly deadlocked on May 7th. Judge Joseph Chase then declared a mistrial.
