The Country Singer in the NFL Draft Intro Video Is Cody Webb
The 90-second NFL draft video that opens this weekend's coverage on the NFL Network parallels the hard work required to make it in country music and the NFL. Newcomer Cody Webb represents the country music struggle, and it's very possible you've heard his music before.
Webb has a publishing deal in Nashville and landed a song called "Memories Are Made Of" on Luke Combs' platinum certified debut album This One's for You. In a behind-the-scenes video released prior to the 2019 NFL draft in Nashville, fans see Webb moving around famous honky-tonks in Nashville, including Tootsies Orchid Lounge. Scenes also come from the Ryman Auditorium and a few other rooms that look over the Nashville skyline.
It's a very big break for Webb, a country newcomer who moved to Nashville from South Carolina with his new wife in 2014. He told the Tennessean that it is his first acting gig, one expected to reach 20 million people when the NFL Network airs it prior to draft-day coverage on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (April 25-27).
Dolly Parton narrates the finished video, and Vanderbilt University cornerback Alim Muhammad plays the role of NFL prospect on draft day. The song you hear in this behind-the-scenes video is called "Gettin' Somewhere."
Country music stars have gotten very involved with draft weekend activities. Tim McGraw and Dierks Bentley are both playing concerts, and Luke Bryan is actively promoting it with ABC. Chris Young is another artist who's gotten involved, and most of the Lower Broadway area of downtown Nashville is shut down due to the draft and Nashville Marathon, taking place on Saturday morning.
