Rice County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Cannon Lake Drowning

Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn says an elderly man was found deceased in Cannon Lake today.  The call came in to dispatch at 10:49 a.m. as a missing person report.

Lieutenant Joe Yetzer with the Rice County Water Patrol says Deputies were dispatched to a home in the 3000 block of Cannon Lake Trail.  A person requested assistance to locate their father at his residence.

A pair of boots were seen floating in Cannon Lake away from the shore.  The Rice County Dive Team was requested to respond and assist.

Deputies commandeered a nearby boat and soon located "an adult male in the lake."  He was removed from the water and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The Minnesota DNR also assisted at the scene.

Yezer says. "Preliminary investigation found no trauma and no foul play is suspected at this time.  The case remains under investigation by the Rice County Sheriff's Office and the Rice County Coroner's Office."

Victim identity is being withheld for family notification.

Sheriff Dunn told KDHL it would probably be released Friday morning.
