Rochester Man Charged For Assaulting Infant and Woman
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester man is facing multiple felonies for allegedly entering his ex-girlfriend's residence and assaulting her and a baby.
The criminal complaint against 51-year-old Jermaine Johnson Sr. says officers responded to the report of a domestic assault in southeast Rochester on Sunday. A woman at the residence told officers Johnson allegedly entered her apartment after the two had been arguing over text.
The complaint says the woman and a one-year-old child the woman and Johnson had in common were home when Johnson arrived. Johnson choked the woman and reportedly struck the infant while he was also allegedly slapping the woman, according to the complaint. Responding officers observed a red mark that was bruising under the baby’s left eye.
When the woman reached for her phone to call 911, Johnson allegedly took it and left the residence, the complaint says. Additional officers later located and arrested Johnson when they spotted him driving on Marion Rd. southeast. The complaint says Johnson admitted to going to the woman’s residence and taking her phone. He denied that anything physical had happened at the residence.
Johnson is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree burglary assault, third-degree assault, two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault and a single count of misdemeanor theft. His next court appearance is August 23.
