Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man who was involved in a deadly incident last year was arraigned Wednesday on two charges.

A man was struck and killed by a pickup truck driven by 42-year-old Will Hanson around 10:30 pm May 15, 2021.

The victim - 48-year-old Joseph Rodriguez of Rochester - was hit in the 2400 block of 20th St. SE.

Hanson told police he was driving around 45 mph when Rodriguez suddenly appeared in front of him and he could not stop in time to avoid hitting him.

According to the criminal complaint, Hanson showed signs of impairment. A small amount of methamphetamine was found in his truck. A blood sample taken at the time later revealed the presence of amphetamines and methamphetamine.

The criminal complaint was filed in March, charging Hanson with felony drug possession and a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

He is scheduled to return to court in July for an evidentiary hearing.
