Our relative safety from violent crime is one of the great things about living in Minnesota, and once again, a new survey has singled out Rochester as one of the safest cities in the country.

The latest list, The Top 25 Safest Cities For Families in the U.S., was compiled by the security company, ADT. It looked at various categories of violent crime as collected by the FBI's Uniform Crime Report. It also looked at unemployment rates as well as high school graduation rates from the latest U.S. Census report. It then compiled them into one list which ranks the top safest cities in the country.

And, no surprise here, Rochester is again on the list. In fact, we're ranked as the 11th safest city for families on their list. Only one other city in Minnesota-- Mankato-- ranked higher than Rochester. (They came in at #9.)

Here's what their report had to say about Minnesota's Med City:

For years, Rochester has been rated as one of the best places to live in the entire country by Money, and statistically speaking it’s also one of the safest cities to raise a family, too. Particularly notable is the city’s emphasis on education – it’s home to both St. Mary’s Hospital and the Mayo Clinic. The city of Rochester itself reported only 224 incidents of violent crime during the entirety of 2017.

So, even though there are a few inaccuracies in that summary-- like St. Marys (no apostrophe, mind you) being a PART of, and not separate from, Mayo Clinic--  we'll still take their accolades, won't we?

Of course, there IS some crime here in Rochester. In fact, THIS interactive heat map shows you just HOW safe your Rochester neighborhood (or neighboring city or town) actually is-- sorted by zip code. Check it out HERE.
