Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A brawl broke out in downtown Rochester’s bar district early Friday.

Several police officers responded to the melee in the area of Historic 3rd St and 1st Ave SW around 2:15 AM.

Officers found a state trooper who had arrived first struggling with one of the participants. The officers also had a hard time restoring peace and one was punched.

Police say two groups of males and females were involved. A spokesman says the confrontation began as a verbal dispute in a nearby bar and then spilled into the street. A total of 10 - 15 people were involved.

Officers eventually took two 20-year-old women into custody, although one was later released. A spokesman says the investigation into the brawl continues and more people could face charges.
