Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It appears Rochester Public Utilities customers are in for a break.

The RPU Board was told by management at its Tuesday meeting it will not recommend increases in electric or water rates next year.

The formal recommendation will be dealt with when the board approves the 2021 budget in October.

But the freeze may melt by the following year. According to the briefing given to the board, there will be "3.5% rate increases in each year 2022 through 2025” for electric and water service.

The board was also told it may take awhile for RPU to return to a more normal revenue stream:

“The current Electric Utility budget shows slow growth returning to pre-pandemic levels of consumption by 2024. This recovery is modeled after the recovery following the 2008 financial crisis.”
