Rochester ‘Walk To End Alzheimer’s’ Exceeds Fundraising Goal
It was such an honor meeting so many passionate people coming together for a great cause!
On Saturday morning, I lugged the "Quick truck" to RCTC to join the Walk To End Alzheimer's with the Alzheimer's Association in hopes that I could comfort folks affected by this disease, and add to a fun day.
I wanted this event to embody a celebratory atmosphere, but I learned quickly that I wasn't needed for that. So many families and friends came out to show their support!
Walk To End Alzheimer's 2018
Mayor Brede and Senator Carla Nelson were present sharing their stories about their connections to the disease, which both have been public about. Mayor Brede shared stories of his experience coping with his wife's condition, and Senator Nelson honored her father.
My grandmother (in-law) unfortunately suffered from dementia for the past twelve years until her passing this past October.
This disease takes a toll on not just the affected individual, but the loved ones around them too.
The "walk" had a goal of raising $120,000 toward Alzheimer's research. 43 teams contributed and helped surpass that goal. What was more special about these donations was watching two huge cash ones come in right ay the end of the walk. Mary's Angels raised over $12,000 alone!
This was truly a special event, and I'm so proud of everyone raising money for such important research! That "white flower" will be a reality one day!
