Rochester’s Matthew Hurt Picks Duke
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - One of the most highly anticipated announcements in Rochester area sports was delivered this afternoon in front of cheering students and TV camera crews in the auditorium at John Marshall High School.
The repeated visits to Rochester by Coach Mike Krzyzewski apparently paid off because standout JM basketball player Matthew Hurt officially signaled his intentions to play collegiate basketball next season for the Duke Blue Devils. Hurt was considered of the top ten high school basketball prospects in the nation and was recruited by just about every top NCAA Division I program.
Hurt’s list of accomplishments on the court is long and includes the 2019 Mr. Basketball Award and his selection as Minnesota’s Associated Press Player of the Year for boy’s high school basketball. He also won the 2019 MBCA McDonald Award and was honored by being chosen to play in the McDonald’s All-American game where the 6 foot 9 forward scored 8 points. His 3,189 high school career points set a new all-time record for large schools in Minnesota.
His older brother, Michael, was also a standout player for John Marshall and has played the past three seasons with the Minnesota Gophers.
