Romantic comedies are way more popular than people care to admit. They’re one of those genres that quietly crush it every year in theaters and on streaming platforms. But just which rom-com is our favorite here in Minnesota?

Why Romantic Comedies Dominate Streaming and Box Offices

Rom-coms are consistently among the most-watched movie categories on streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Hulu around Valentine’s Day and the holidays. Even newer movies (Anyone But You, The Hating Game, Set It Up) rack up millions of views fast, CNBC reports.

When a rom-com hits theaters, it often outperforms expectations because:

  • Budgets are low compared to action movies
  • Couples’ night + group viewing boosts ticket sales
  • Word-of-mouth spreads fast
