Roundabout Proposed For Eastside Rochester Intersection
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The public is being invited to offer input on a proposed roundabout project in an eastside Rochester neighborhood.
The city Public Works Dept. is considering replacing the traffic signal lights at the 11th Ave./East Center St intersection with a “mini-roundabout.” The intersection is near the Boys and Girls Club.
The department says the current traffic signal was constructed in 1965 and is reaching the end of its useful life. A 2018 evaluation determined that traffic through the intersection no longer warrants a signal and that a mini-roundabout is a viable alternative to an all-way stop.
The department says “Benefits of a mini-roundabout in this location include increased safety for all users, fewer delays for drivers, and less emissions and fuel use due to the reduction in travel stops.”
To spread the word about the proposed project, the department has created an online information and engagement website.
