A school district in South Dakota is making news after throwing out the idea of sending delinquent lunch accounts to a collection agency. According to KFGO, they currently have just shy of $8,000 in unpaid lunch accounts.

I've been the kid who didn't have lunch money, and also the parent that couldn't afford to send lunch money - the struggle is real. I'm not ashamed to admit that we were on reduced lunches back in the day. My mom was raising three kids on her own, and getting very little child support for us. There are programs that are designed to help struggling parents.

While I completely understand that schools run on a strict budget, I feel that there has to be something that can be done about this that doesn't involve a collection agency. How do you feel about this?
