Spring Grove, MN (KROC-AM News) - Houston County officials say they are looking for a man they say has a history of violent and assaultive behaviors.

Houston County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Brian Swedberg says deputies responded yesterday to a report of a domestic assault involving a handgun in progress at a rural residence near Spring Grove. The man allegedly involved in the incident was identified as 39-year-old Thomas Monson. Court records show he has a lengthy criminal history that lists several convictions for felony-level offenses. One of those convictions was for second-degree assault and carrying a five-year prison sentence.

Swedberg says Monson had fled into a nearby cornfield and wooded area by the time deputies arrived at the scene shortly before 2:30 p.m. After an extensive search by multiple law enforcement agencies, Monson could not be located and his whereabouts are currently unknown.

The Sheriff's Office is asking that anyone who encounters Monson or knows of his whereabouts to call 911. Swedberg says, based on the information available, he should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
